Farm & Ranch Asset Advisory

Capital advice for working ranches.

I help ranch owners know their numbers, make sound decisions about land, cattle, and equipment, and build a disciplined operation that can fund its own future.

The Premise

Your ranch is a portfolio

A cow is capital. So is a tractor, a pivot, a set of pens, a stack of hay, and the land under all of it. Every one of them has a job: create value. But how do you know what value each asset is actually creating?

The lender is concerned with repayment. Your accountant watches the tax implication. Your financial advisor attends to the money off the ranch. But whose job is it to make it all fit together? That's where I come in.

There's no such thing as a non-cash expense. Everything costs something to acquire, needs to create value, and eventually be replaced. True Range Ag can help with that.

Questions Worth Asking

Does any of this sound familiar?

  • Your books show an operating profit, but the cash may not tell the same story.
  • What does a cow generate for you over her lifetime?
  • Equipment, fence, and water are wearing out. Do you have a plan?
  • The tax professional suggested spending some money… if that's the right move, how do you do that so it strengthens the operation, not weakens it?
  • You see some new practices or technologies in the industry. What would they look like on your place?
  • You're weighing a land deal, a lease, or a big purchase and want a second set of eyes on it.
  • The next generation wants in, and the books can't yet show how that works.
  • You're not sure how much the family can take out each year without shrinking the ranch.
  • If the next drought lasts two years, do you know what you'd sell and what you'd keep?

The Approach

How Cattleman's Capital works

  1. Sort your money

We get an honest picture of where the money comes from and where it really goes.

  2. Give it a home

We set up a simple structure that separates running the ranch from building it, so each dollar has a place. Money for the next set of bulls or the next tractor gets set aside before you need it.

  3. Give it a job

Every dollar you put into cattle, land, equipment or infrastructure should earn its keep. You'll know which ones do and what you need to adjust for better results.

  4. Plan for the hard years

We can analyze your decisions for culling, replacement, and equipment forward over many years, and see how the place holds up through a drought, a hard winter, or a big repair.

Every operation is different, so I scope and price the work to fit yours after a first conversation.

Working with your other advisors

I don't replace your banker, accountant, attorney, or financial advisor. With your permission, I give them the same clear picture of the operation that you'll have, so everyone at the table works from the same numbers.

What I don't do: investment advice, tax preparation or tax advice, legal work, bookkeeping, or livestock marketing.
